Jim McDaniel, PLS
Jim has an intimate knowledge of the local area being raised in the Skykomish Valley and graduating from Sultan High School in 1969. After serving the country in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam, Jim attended college on the G.I. Bill, graduating from Everett Community College with an Associate Degree in Technical Arts in 1976. He then went on to gain his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology at the Oregon Institute of Technology in 1979.
Jim gained experience working for the Bureau of Land Management and several private firms in the States of Utah, Oregon, California, Idaho, and Nevada before settling back in Snohomish County in 1983. He was originally licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in California (1982) and then in Washington (1983). Jim was also a U.S. Deputy Mineral Surveyor (license has since lapsed for lack of use).
Jim’s land surveying experience includes general property surveys, boundary line adjustments, ALTA surveys, topographic mapping, residential subdivisions, right-of-way determination, section breakdowns, and expert witness in land dispute cases. Jim especially enjoys working on projects that involve flood plain issues that cover Elevation Certificates, Letters of Map Change, base flood elevation determinations, and addressing code violations in flood zones.
Jim came to Harmsen & Associates in February of 1987 as a day-to-day employee and hasn’t left yet. Along with several others, Jim is one of the major shareholders and principal of HARMSEN.
